Introduction:
Nikolaihof Im Weingebirge Federspiel Grüner Veltliner is a biodynamic white wine made in Wachau (Austria) with the Grüner Veltliner variety by the Nikolaihof winery.
Nikolaihof is one of the oldest wine estates in Austria and even has some features dating back to the Roman Empire. The Saahs family took over the winery in 1894, carrying on the winemaking tradition that the Germanic monks had established there. This is a way of working that has never used chemical products, and since 1971, they have been using biodynamic practices. They have held Demeter Bio-dynamic certification since 1998, making the Nikolaihof winery amongst those with the most biodynamic experience.
Nikolaihof Im Weingebirge Federspiel Grüner Veltliner comes from vines with an average age of 47 years old, planted in primary rock soils covered with gravel and humus. They use organic farming methods and no herbicides, pesticides or any other chemical. Instead they use natural preparations made with plants and manure. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum moment of ripeness.
