Wine making:
Faithful to this culture of audacity and risk-taking well anchored in the family, the Coursodons then decided to explore new territories, in this case a plot facing west, located on the plateau of Mauves, near – but outside – the Saint-Joseph and Saint-Péray appellations.
Convinced of the quality of this terroir, which mixes granites and limestone loess to produce a racy and fine white, Jérôme Coursodon decides to combine Roussanne and Viognier, for a result that is both powerful and surprisingly fresh and elegant in its aromas. Is this grape variety not authorized in the AOC Saint-Joseph? It doesn't matter, it will therefore be a Vin de France, but what a Vin de France!
This gushing Etincelle 2020, both concentrated and penetrating, confirms in a very beautiful way the accuracy of the Coursodon intuitions and their impressive mastery of winemaking. Jerôme favors here large wooden tuns and fairly short aging on fine lees (barely 6 months). Beyond the prodigious aromatic richness of the wine, what is most striking is the extraordinary ability of these still young vines to transmit the energy and vibration of the soil with so much intensity and depth.
Description:
Nose: From the first nose, it is a farandole of fruity and spicy aromas that swirl above the glass, deploying a frankly communicative energy. The Viognier seems, this year, to assert itself in the blend and delights us with notes of vine peach, nectarine and peach kernel, apricot, but also violet, bergamot, incense, pepper Sichuan or musk. A more tangy touch evoking an orange-lemon marmalade precedes an airy note of sage and some nuances of fresh pineapple. It is a pure delight!
Taste: In the mouth, the balance is just perfect: we find the same greedy generosity as on the nose, supplemented by a feeling of depth that makes us plunge into the ground, into the interstices of the rock and this spicy dimension that the vine has known. find there. Ripe white fruits and Reine-Claude plum now combine with many exciting and tangy flavors of mandarin, lime, kiwi or rhubarb. Then comes a myriad of spices, as if carried along by the ground: we think of coriander and liquorice, green pepper and clove, completed with a refreshing minty touch. The finish, dense and straight, impresses with its persistence and deep vibration that touches you right down to the plexus!
