Peter Lauer Faß 5 Kupp Riesling Kabinett VDP Auction 2021 - phenomenal Kabinett cinema, approved by the Riesling Pope himself!
Florian Lauer's auction Kabinett is always one of his most extreme wines, where he takes full risk and thus tests the limits of the possible. The result is an incredibly suspenseful Riesling, which stimulates all the senses with its explosive aroma and the dramatic sweet and sour play. We were all the more surprised when Florian put three more unlabeled bottles of cabinet in front of our noses last year after the rehearsal of the normal Kabi range and wanted to know our opinion. All three wines were, each taken for themselves, so independent and of outstanding quality that we couldn't get the grin out of our face. One of the wines was the brand new Schonfels Kabinett, the other two were single-folder bottlings from the Ayler Kupp. Florian Lauer actually wanted to auction all three wines together in a cabinet package, but then listened to the advice of none other than Rielsing Pope Egon Müller, who considered the most restrained, profound wine with the slightest aroma to be the best of the three cabinets. What luck, because that's how Schonfels Kabinett and Ayler Kupp Kabinett Private Filling came into the free market! But there is no doubt that the chosen Ayler Kupp Cabinet Auction of the Primus inter Pares is:
Description:
Nose: Cool, bell-clear and highly mineral nose with predominant smoke, reminiscent of slate and flint. In addition, subtle citrus notes such as lime zest and also light exotic fruit hints.
Taste: On the palate extremely tense, almost vibrating with hearty acidity and subtle residual sweetness, supported by the finest slate minerality. Everything looks extremely precise, has a finesse that can only be found in the very largest wines in this category. One of the very big Kabis of the Saar - will mature phenomenally!
