Description

Information:

A red wine with a fresh, light style conveying all the fruity flavour and character of Grenache, the grape variety so highly prized in this part of Spain.

Vitícola Mentridana is the successor to Dani Landi Viticultor. Dani, born in Méntrida, followed a similar path as his childhood friend Curro. Both studied oenology and began their careers working in small family-run bodegas. Eventually, they each created their own projects—Comando G for Dani and Fedellos for Curro. Now, their paths have crossed again: Dani decided to bring all his vineyards from the Méntrida appellation under one separate winery, Vitícola Mentridana. Curro now runs the day-to-day operations and makes the wines, always with Dani’s support.

This cuvee celebrates Méntrida, the finest appellation in central Spain. It mainly consists of Grenache, the leading grape variety in this Iberian Peninsula region. The berries draw their distinctive personality from the clay-limestone soils, a geological profile that helps retain the the rain that falls in autumn. This typical profile is balanced by a short maceration and juices aged in 3,000 to 3,700 litre barrels for 7 months.

The 2021 El Mentridano was produced with Garnacha grapes from the family in the village of Méntrida (and therefore not Gredos) on sandstone granite soils, producing a light and approachable style through fermenting the full clusters with a very short maceration and an élevage in 3,000- and 3,700-liter foudres for seven months. It's quite open and appley, with hints of herbs and red berries. It's a warmer zone than Gredos, and the wine is ripe without excess with 14.3% alcohol and a pH of 3.4. It has less grip than the wines from Gredos but is balanced through the shorter maceration. 17,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2022.

The new kid on the block is Vitícola Mentridana, a family and friends project from Dani Landi (Comando G) and Curro Bareño (Ca' di Mat and Fedellos) with family vineyards and some of the brands that used to belong to Landi. The first vintage is 2021, but the 2020s are already labeled and sold through this new project. In total, they have 15 hectares in Méntrida and Real de San Vicente, some owned, some rented, but all are worked by them organically (and in due time they should get the certification). Production is around 40,000 bottles. It's a great new addition to Gredos.

Description:

Once bottled, this wine displays a light, accessible style, with notes of red fruit and grass. The Grenache brings depth to the aromas and complements them with structured tannins. Here, the estate has crafted a wine worthy of cellaring for a decade or so which will reveal its full potential. Pair it with a typical local dish, such as cocido madrilena, for a taste of the rich flavours promised by Spanish gastronomy.
