Among the many virtues of wine, one of the most fascinating is its ability to describe a region and the people who produce it better than any number of words. If wine has the caliber of Valentini's Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, the challenge is not only space but also time. Like a work of art, wine carries within it a piece of the soul of its creators. And it makes it immortal. Edoardo Valentini is no longer with us, but his story and his wines will forever be one of the most beautiful and fascinating chapters in Italian winemaking. It couldn't be otherwise. Having joined the family business in the 1950s, Edoardo succeeded in revolutionizing the very idea of wine from his homeland, Abruzzo, with an approach so radical that it became a model, yet remained essentially unique. The company today extends over 200 hectares, 64 of which are vineyards and another 50 planted with olive groves. Trebbiano vineyards, a lesser-known variety that our man has successfully brought into the elite of global winemaking, along with Montepulciano and Cerasuolo. Yes, his Trebbiano... Certainly one of the most discussed and, in our opinion, the most exciting and personal whites around. A wine capable of delivering strong sensations, sometimes indecipherable when young, but with enormous potential and incredible ageing potential. Like the 2001 vintage, which reveals its personality right from its deep, slightly opalescent straw-yellow color. The aromas are nothing short of astonishing, rich yet defined, ranging from exotic fruit to yellow flowers, from wheat to mineral, marine, and salty notes. The explosion continues and expands on the palate, characterized by a light carbonation that expands in every direction, demonstrating a perfect balance between richness, savory flavors, and acidity. An opulent yet dynamic and vibrant wine with a delightful, long-lasting almond finish. Aged at length in 50-hectoliter oak barrels, it will age in the cellar for many years. The winery does not disclose the number of bottles produced.
