Mariflor is a prestigious winery located in Vista Flores, Valle de Uco, Mendoza, Argentina, part of the renowned Clos de los Siete estate. Founded by Michel Rolland and his wife Dany Rolland, both acclaimed French winemakers, Mariflor embodies their vision of crafting exceptional wines that express the unique terroir of Argentina’s Uco Valley. Michel, a globally celebrated wine consultant known as the “flying winemaker,” first visited Argentina in 1988, collaborating with the Etchart family in Cafayate. This led to the Clos de los Siete project in 1999, a 2,100-acre estate in southern Mendoza, where Michel and Dany personally manage the 247-acre Mariflor vineyard. Named after their daughter, Mariflor is both a place and a concept, reflecting two decades of immersion in Argentina’s wine culture. The winery, Bodega Rolland, was constructed in 2009 and operational for the 2010 harvest, designed with 54 thermoregulated concrete vats and gravity-fed systems under Bordeaux expertise.
Description:
Nose: Intense and complex, with prominent notes of black fruit (blackcurrant, cassis, ripe cherry) and wild berries, complemented by spicy nuances of black pepper, licorice, and mint. Subtle herbaceous notes (sweet peppers) and toasty oak (vanilla, spice) add depth.
Taste: Medium to full-bodied, with firm yet well-integrated tannins and balanced acidity. The palate showcases concentrated blackcurrant and cassis flavors, layered with spices, licorice, and a touch of sweet vanilla from oak aging. The wine is powerful yet elegant, with a long, structured finish that retains freshness and complexity.
