Introduce:
Hubert Lignier is a prestigious family-run wine estate based in Morey-Saint-Denis, in the heart of Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, France, renowned for crafting exceptional Pinot Noir wines that embody concentration, depth, and structure. Established in the 1880s by Jacques Lignier, who purchased a rundown estate during the phylloxera crisis, the domaine was revitalized over generations. Under Hubert Lignier’s leadership in the 1960s, it began estate bottling, gaining prominence for its quality. Today, Hubert’s son, Laurent Lignier, manages the estate, continuing traditional practices while incorporating organic and biodynamic methods.
The domaine spans 9 hectares across Morey-Saint-Denis, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Pommard, producing 24 appellations, including three Grand Crus (Clos de la Roche, Charmes-Chambertin, Griotte-Chambertin) and ten Premier Crus. Their viticulture follows “lutte raisonnée” (sensible combat), using organic compost, no herbicides, and hand-harvesting. Winemaking is minimal-intervention, with partial whole-cluster fermentation, native yeasts, and 20–50% new oak for 20–22 months of aging.
Description:
Nose: Red cherry, raspberry, and subtle dark cherry notes, accented by earth, humus, and a hint of toastiness from oak. Floral undertones (peony) and mineral nuances emerge with aeration.
Taste: Red fruit (raspberry, redcurrant), forest floor, and a mineral-inflected core. Tannins are slightly ripe, providing structure without aggression, and the finish is lingering, balanced, and elegant.
