Information:

Founded in 1834 on the hill of l’Hermitage in Tain l’Hermitage, the Paul Jaboulet Aîné house oversees an exceptional heritage that brings together the most famous terroirs of the northern Rhone valley and produces quintessential great wines.

1834 - Paul Jaboulet Aîné was founded by Antoine Jaboulet (1807-1864) in Tain l’Hermitage and grew under the management of his sons, Paul and Henry, and their descendants.

1940 - Louis Jaboulet (1912-2012) took over the family business. A pioneering and inquisitive man, he made 42 harvests, including several legendary vintages.

1961 - Hermitage La Chapelle 1961, one of the iconic wines of the 20th century.

1977 - Gérard Jaboulet took up the torch and developed Paul Jaboulet Aîné throughout the world until his death in 1997.

2006 - Caroline Frey takes over the management of the house and initiates the transition to organic and biodynamic farming.

2017 - Caroline Frey receives the insignia of Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite for her commitment to organic viticulture and the protection of the terroir and the environment.

2023 - Caroline Frey receives the Insignia of Officier du mérite agricole. Creation of Domaine de La Chapelle, bringing together the two legendary cuvées: La Chapelle and Le Chevalier de Sterimberg.


Wine making:

Hand-picked, sorted by plot in small 12kg crates.

Optical and/or manual sorting, Traditional vinification – 100% destemming.

3 weeks maceration and daily pumping over. Malolactic fermentation.

Aged 12 to 18 months in French oak barrels and/or demi-muids and/or truncated cone vats and/or concrete eggs (percentage of new wood varies with vintage).


Description:

Nose: Delicate nose marked by aromas of Morello cherries, accompanied by subtle floral notes and sweet spices. 

Taste: Ample attack supported by aromas of redcurrant and wild strawberry. Notes of ageing accompany the finish.
