Information:
The Schlumberger family originated in Swabia, a region of southern Germany that is now part of Baden-Württemberg. Claus Schlumberger was the first of the family to settle in Guebwiller in the 16th century, at the time of the Abbots of Murbach. He soon became opposed to the hegemony of the abbots and moved to Mulhouse, which had been a free town since the 14th century and had embraced Protestantism. After Claus’s death, many Schlumbergers from Swabia came to Mulhouse to work as tanners like him. This led to many generations of Schlumbergers, making them the largest family in Mulhouse by the 17th century.
As a 100% harvesting winegrower, we only make wine from our own harvest, which means we don’t buy grapes, juice or wine. Alsatian winegrowers account for just 22% of the region’s production!
Situated on the vertiginous slopes of Guebwiller, in the south of Alsace, with 50° inclinations and an altitude ranging from 250 to 390 metres, our mountainside vineyard is without doubt one of the most striking in Alsace. It has the great privilege of benefiting from triple exposure to the sun: south-west, south and south-east. Guebwiller is the only commune in Alsace to claim 4 Grands Crus.
In fact, half of our vineyard, i.e. 70 hectares, is made up of these unique terroirs.
Wine making:
Slow, pneumatic pressing was followed by static racking. Fermentation in thermo-regulated tuns for one to four months. Maturation on lees from six to eight months.
Description:
Nose: The nose is frank, pleasant, of great intensity. We smell a dominant of exotic smells, pineapple, banana, papaya, passion fruit. Aeration amplifies these smells and reveals citrus fruits, blood orange, star fruit, spices, candied ginger. The nose testifies to the perfect sanitary state of the harvest. Precise and complex in its definition, it has a beautiful shine.
Taste: The attack on the palate is dense, soft, the alcohol support is balanced. We evolve on a nervous medium, marked by pearling. We find the range of aromas of the nose, always focused on exoticism, blood orange, banana, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, star fruit and spices, candied ginger. We feel a hint of bitterness. The finish has a great length, 9-10 caudalies, as well as a strict vivacity and a slight lingering bitterness. The structure is masterful!!! Tasty as you wish, it oscillates between controlled richness, perfectly balanced by a fair vivacity, all enhanced by beguiling, intoxicating aromas. Great success !!!
